Homework Due Apr. 27th for everybody except Father Gillespie's Class
Chapter 1
People followed Jesus because he brought the Good News of God's love for all people. Sometimes it can be difficult to find "Good News" today. Use a reliable news source to find positive news stories. Reflect on this process. How easy was it to find a positive story? Explain the reasons behind your answer. Discuss with a family member, your sponsor, or a friend.
Chapter 2
One of the ways the Apostles encouraged and taught the early Christians was through their letters, called Epistles. These Epistles are part of the New Testament. Choose an Epistle. In your own words, explain the advice given in the epistle. Write a letter or email to a friend, family member or sponsor relating this advice to your own life.
Chapter 3
One way we are all called to be evangelizers is by speaking and acting in ways that show God's love. Think a person active in public life that you think evangelizes in this way. Why is this form of evangelization important? Write an article profiling this person.
Chapter 4
Research ways young people have made a difference in the world. What inspired these young people? Design a mural or collage displaying all of the things that inspire you.
Chapter 5
Create a slideshow presentation as a class, group or by yourself of the images of the Holy Spirit you learned about. Include explanations, music, and other elements. If possible, share the presentation with your confirmation class, parish, or family.
Bonus:
You are Pope Francis, what are your priorities? What reforms, if any, would you prioritize and why. What would be your top 3 goals as pontiff and why. How would you Shepard your flock?
You are Cardinal Seán Patrick O’Malley, what are your priorities? What reforms, if any, would you prioritize and why. What would be your top 3 goals as archbishop and why. How would you Shepard your flock?

OPEN MY MIND
Lord Jesus, you were once a student like me. You studied God’s law, the history of your people and a trade by which to earn a living. You lived in a human family, made steady progress in understanding and yearned to discover your vocation in life. Open my mind to the truth of things, make me humble before the awesome mysteries of the universe, make me proud to be a human being and a child of God and give me courage to live my life in the light of your gospel. Amen.

BEFORE STUDY
Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom, lofty origin of all being, graciously let a ray of your brilliance penetrate into the darkness of my understanding and take from me the double darkness in which I have been born, an obscurity of both sin and ignorance. Give me a sharp sense of understanding, a retentive memory, and the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally. Grant me the talent of being exact in my explanations, and the ability to express myself with thoroughness and charm. Point out the beginning, direct the progress, and help in the completion; through Christ our Lord. Amen,
St. Thomas Aquinas
FOR RESPONSIBLE DECISIONS
O God, who has called me to place such complete trust in you that nothing can tyrannize my life, deliver me, I pray….from becoming a slave to my books, from daydreaming away my time, from an over concern about sex, from an over anxiety about my future, from an uncritical view of myself, from an overcritical view of myself, and from all the half-known deities which try to dictate what I shall be. Save me, that I may be free to make responsible decisions and serve you with wholeness. Amen.
John W. Vannorsdall
THE ROAD AHEAD
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But, I believe that the desire to please you, does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this, you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. Amen.
Thomas Merton
PRAYER BEFORE EXAMINATIONS
Lord, it seems as though our lives are one test after another, weighing us in somebody’s balance. Save us from taking the coming tests too seriously or too lightly, but grant that we may reflect the best of the work we’ve done and the best of the teaching we’ve received; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen,
John W. Vannordall
A PRAYER FOR TEEN DRIVERS
Lord, help me to always remember: That driving is a revocable privilege. To drive by my own conscience and not be pressured into breaking the rules. To never get into any car when my judgment is impaired. To respect other drivers and those in authority. To never drive faster than my guardian angel can fly. Amen.

ANYTHING CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED
It’s never easy to be a student. Every day brings more assignments until it seems that the hard work will never end. I know I’d rather watch T.V. or listen to music many times when I sit down to study, but please, Lord, help me to realize that knowledge, like your love, can never be lost. Help me never to underestimate myself as a student because anything can be accomplished with your guidance and love. Let me be helpful and understanding toward my fellow students, and not judge them but radiate the same love you show us through your lasting mercy. Amen.
